Giuseppe Grassi (born May 8, 1883 in Lecce , Province of Lecce , † January 25, 1950 ) was an Italian lawyer and politician of the Unione Democratica Nazionale (UDN) and Partito Liberale Italiano (PLI), who was Minister of Justice from 1947 until his death Italy was.

Life

After attending school, Grassi studied law and after graduating worked as a lawyer and university lecturer .

He was already politically active in the Kingdom of Italy and was first elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera del Regno d'Italia ) in November 1913 , to which he belonged until January 25, 1924.

At the end of the Second World War he began his involvement in the UDN and represented it from June 25, 1946 to April 26, 1948 as a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Assemblea Costituente della Repubblica Italiana ).

On May 31, 1947, he was appointed Minister of Justice ( Minstro della Giustizia ) in his fourth cabinet by Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi and retained this position in his fifth government until his death on January 25, 1950. During his tenure as Minister of Justice it came for the adoption of the constitution ( La Costituzione della Repubblica Italiana ) on December 22, 1947, which he officially sealed.

Most recently, from June 11, 1948 until his death, he was also a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ), in which he represented the interests of the constituency of Lecce as a representative of the PLI .
