Life

Lawyer and political career until World War II

Fausto Gullo, who studied law at the University of Naples Federico II after attending school , joined the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI) during his studies and was elected as its candidate in 1907 as a member of the city ​​council of Spezzano Piccolo. After he had finished his studies in 1909, he took up a job as a lawyer.

In 1914 he was elected a member of the Provincial Council of the Province of Catanzaro, where he represented the interests of Spezzano Piccolo. During this time he came into contact with Amadeo Bordiga , the then spokesman for the Abstentionist Communist Group ( Frazione Comunista Astensionista ) and later first chairman of the PCI. In 1921 Gullo joined the newly founded PCI and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1924, where he joined the group around Antonio Gramsci and was a member of parliament until January 1926.

In 1925 he belonged to Onorato Damen , Bruno Fortichiari and Luigi Repossi among the representatives of the Comitato d'Intesa , a committee of the PCI that had a dissenting opinion on the party's executive committee on dealing with the fascist movement Benito Mussolini . In 1929 he was arrested for alleged subversive intentions.

Minister and MP in the post-war period

On April 22, 1944, Gullo was appointed Minister-President Pietro Badoglio 's Minister of Agriculture ( Ministro dell'Agricoltura ) in his second provisional military government and also held this function in the subsequent governments of Ivanoe Bonomi , Ferruccio Parri and Alcide De Gasperi until July 13, 1946 inside.

During his long membership in parliament he was a member of various committees and between June 1948 and June 1953 he was vice-chairman of the judicial committee and from April 1949 and June 1953 he was also vice-chairman of the special committee for the investigation of measures of the constitutional court ( Corte costituzionale ). In the second legislative period he was from December 1953 to June 1958 vice-chairman of a special committee for the research and prevention of floods in Calabria and between July 1955 and June 1958 of a special committee for the implementation of extraordinary measures for Calabria and from March 1957 and June 1958 of a special committee for the regional court of Sicily and the Constitutional Court.

Between July 1963 and May 1972, Gullo was then vice-chairman of the Standing Committee on Constitutional Affairs and, at the same time, between February 1964 and May 1972, vice-chairman of the investigative committee of the prosecutor's office.
