Paola Severino

Paola Severino (born October 22, 1948 in Naples ) is an Italian lawyer , university professor and lawyer . She was the Italian Minister of Justice from November 2011 to April 2013 .

Career

Severino studied law at the La Sapienza University in Rome and graduated there in 1971. She then embarked on a career as a university lecturer in the field of criminal law and had also worked as a lawyer since 1977. From 1997 to 2001 she was deputy chairwoman of the self-governing body of the Italian military justice ( Consiglio della Magistratura Militare ). From 2002 to 2007 she headed the law faculty of the elite university LUISS in Rome, of which she was deputy rector until 2011. In addition, she also held the chair for criminal law at the Carabinieri Officers' College in Rome. She was also an advisor to various credit institutions.

On November 16, 2011, Paola Severino was appointed Minister of Justice in the government of Mario Monti, which consists of independent experts .
