Tommaso Morlino (born August 26, 1925 in Irsina , Matera Province , † May 6, 1983 in Rome ) was an Italian lawyer and politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC).

Life

After attending school, Morlino studied law and political science , and after completing his studies initially became a lawyer . He later became a prosecutor and was promoted to deputy attorney general .

In addition, he began to be politically involved in the DC and was not only an advisor to the DC between 1954 and 1955, but also Deputy National Secretary of the party from 1964 to 1965. In addition, he was temporarily administrative president of the Maremma countryside and adviser to the state holding company for the participation and financing of industrial factories ( Ente Partecipazioni e Finanziamento Industrie Manifatturiere ).

On May 19, 1968 he was elected a member of the Senato della Repubblica (Senate) and belonged to it until his death.

In July 1973 he was appointed Undersecretary of State for Balance Sheets and Economic Planning in the fourth government of Prime Minister Mariano Rumor and then took over the post of Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Justice in his fifth cabinet from March to November 1974.

Prime Minister Aldo Moro appointed him on November 23, 1974 in his fourth government as minister without portfolio with responsibility for the Italian regions , before he became minister without portfolio after a cabinet reshuffle from February to July 1976 with responsibility for the public administration of the regions in his fifth cabinet was.

He then became Minister for Balance Sheets and Economic Planning in the third and fourth governments of Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti on July 29, 1976 , who appointed him after a cabinet reshuffle on March 20, 1979 as Minister of Justice in his fifth government. He also held this office in the subsequent two cabinets of Prime Minister Francesco Cossiga until October 17, 1980.

In January 1981 he was first Vice President of the Senate, before he succeeded Amintore Fanfani as Senate President on December 9, 1982 . He held this office until his death on May 6, 1983.
