Life

Meuccio Ruini studied law and philosophy at the University of Bologna . He graduated in 1899. He was a member of the Partito Socialista Italiano and from 1912 of the Partito Socialista Riformista Italiano , which sought to get closer to the government line. In 1920 he was briefly Minister for the Colonies under Francesco Saverio Nitti . During the time of fascism he had to give up his political activities, in 1943 he and Ivanoe Bonomi founded the social-liberal Partito Democratico del Lavoro underground .

Ruini was a member of the Italian Council of State and was appointed Senator for Life in 1963 .
