Giovanni Spagnolli

Giovanni Spagnolli (born October 26, 1907 in Rovereto , Tyrol , Austria-Hungary , today Province of Trento , Italy; † October 5, 1984 ibid) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who was a member of the Senato della between 1953 and 1976 Repubblica and held several ministerial posts. He was last President of the Senate between 1973 and 1976 .

Life

Spagnolli, who worked as an economic manager and entrepreneur, served, among other things, as President of the Municipal Electricity Company of Rovereto and as an advisor to the Federation of Cooperative Associations of the Province of Trentino. Furthermore, he was a member of the Advisory Board of the United Nations Emergency Relief and Reconstruction Administration UNRRA ( United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration ) in the Italian Committee for Aid to the Homeless CASAS (Comitato Amministrativo Soccorso ai Senzatetto) .

In the election of June 7, 1953, he was elected for the first time as a member of the Senate (Senato della Repubblica) as a candidate for the Democrazia Cristiana and represented the interests of the Trentino-South Tyrol region until July 4, 1976 . At the beginning of his senate membership he was in the second legislative period between July 1953 and June 1954 a member of the Standing Committee on Finance and Treasure and then between June 1954 and June 1958 of the Standing Committee on Hygiene and Health.

On July 3, 1958, Spagnolli took over his first government office when he was appointed Undersecretary of State in the Foreign Trade Ministry (Sottosegretario di Stato per il commercio con l'estero) in its second cabinet by Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani . He then held this position in the Segni II cabinet until March 24, 1960. After that, at the end of the third and at the beginning of the fourth legislative term from May 1960 to January 1964, he was Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance and Treasury (Commissione permanente Finanze e tesoro) .

In the first and second Moro cabinet, Spagnolli held the position of Minister for the Merchant Navy (Ministro della marina mercantile) from December 4, 1963 to February 22, 1966 , before joining Moro's third cabinet between February 23, 1966 and November 23, 1966 June 1968 was Minister of Post and Telecommunications (Ministro delle poste e delle telecomunicazioni) .
