Ennio Zelioli-Lanzini ( Italian pron. ? / I ) (* February 8, 1899 in San Giovanni in Croce , Province of Cremona ; † February 8, 1976 in Cremona , Province of Cremona) was an Italian politician of the Partito Popolare Italiano and the Democrazia Cristiana . Audio file / audio sample

Life

The son of an elementary school teacher spent his childhood in Bobbio and did his military service during the First World War . He then studied law at the University of Pavia , graduated in 1921 and then worked as a lawyer . As a supporter of the Partito Popolare Italiano, which existed between 1919 and 1926, he was an opponent of fascism and of the fascist politician Roberto Farinacci , who was active in Cremona .

In the 1920s he became involved in the Catholic youth movement and in 1927 became president of the Catholic lay movement Katholische Aktion ( Gioventù Cattolica ) in Lombardy . In 1931 he was elected President of the Federation of Italian Catholic Universities ( Federazione Universitaria Cattolica Italiana ) and in 1943 as President of the Church Movement for Cultural Engagement ( Movimento Ecclesiale di Impegno Culturale ). On September 8, 1943, he was one of the founders of the Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale , but was arrested again and again by the fascists because of his commitment.

After the Second World War he continued his political engagement in the Democrazia Cristiana and was also one of the co-founders of the Christian workers' movement in Italy ( Associazioni Cristiane dei Lavoratori Italiani ).

Zelioli-Lanzini was elected to the Senato della Repubblica (Senate) for the first time on May 8, 1948 , to which he belonged for five legislative periods until May 24, 1972.

During the tenure of Prime Minister Antonio Segni between July 1955 and May 1957 he was Undersecretary of State to the Prime Minister. In October 1960 he was elected Vice-President of the Senate and thus the representative of Cesare Merzagora , especially when the latter was acting President of the Italian Republic from August 10 to December 29, 1964 . On November 8, 1967, he finally succeeded Merzagora as President of the Senate and held this office until June 4, 1968.

On 24 June 1968 it summoned Prime Minister Giovanni Leone to Minister of Health of Italy , and was as such until December 12, 1968 at the office. After leaving the Senate in May 1972, he retired from political life.
