Giuseppe Caron

Giuseppe Caron (born February 24, 1904 in Treviso ; † March 3, 1998 in Treviso ) was an Italian European politician and Vice-President of the EEC Commission.

Life

After completing his scientific training as a chemist, Caron managed several companies in the Italian pharmaceutical industry. From 1952 he was Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce . He also held numerous lobbyist functions.

During the Second World War , Caron was involved in the resistance against the German occupation. As a representative of the Democrazia Cristiana , he was a member of the Committee for National Liberation in the Province of Treviso .

Politically he was initially as Undersecretary for Civil Aviation. In the elections to the Italian Senate in 1948, 1953 and 1958, Caron won one mandate each. In European politics he was active as an Italian delegate to the Council of Europe and as a member of the European Parliament .

In December 1959 Caron was appointed to the EEC Commission under Walter Hallstein to succeed his compatriot Piero Malvestiti . In addition to his role as Vice President with a focus on the press and information policy of the EEC, Caron was primarily responsible for the internal market between the EEC countries and also for economy and finance, transport and external relations. As early as 1963, Caron was re-elected to the Italian Senate and left the commission.
