Giuseppe Petrilli

Giuseppe Petrilli (born March 24, 1913 in Naples ; † May 13, 1999 there ) was an Italian professor and EEC commissioner.

Giuseppe Petrilli studied mathematics . In the first European Commission , Petrilli was Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities . He was also a member of the working groups for the main areas of responsibility Development of Overseas States and Territories and External Relations . On February 8, 1961 (according to other dates already September or December 1960) he resigned as commissioner. He was succeeded by Lionello Levi Sandri . However, he is no longer represented in the External Relations working group, but in the Economics and Finance working group .

In 1960 the professor became president of the IRI (Italian Institute for Industrial Reconstruction - a powerful state-owned company). He stayed that way for almost 20 years, until 1979.

In 1979, after the elections, he became a member of the Italian Senate . He belonged to the Democrazia Cristiana (DC).
