Anna Diamantopoulou (2007)
Anna Diamantopoulou ( Greek Άννα Διαμαντοπούλου ; born February 26, 1959 in Kozani , Greece ) is a Greek politician of PASOK .
Life
Diamantopoulou was one of the youngest prefects in Greece, she served Kastoria Prefecture from 1984 to 1986. She then became Secretary General for Adult Education and later for Youth. In 1993 she became President of the Greek Organization of Small and Medium Enterprises.
From 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to May 2012 she was a member of the Greek Parliament.
From 1999 to 2004 she was European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities in the Prodi Commission . After her party's electoral defeat, she gave up her post to Stavros Dimas for the remainder of her term in March 2004 .
From October 2009 to March 2012, after Giorgos A. Papandreou's election victory, she was Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Religion and also retained the post in the non-partisan transitional government of Lucas Papademos , which was in office from November 2011 , due to the half-hearted participation of the Nea Dimokratia of PASOK representatives was dominated. From March 2012 to May 2012 she was promoted to Minister for Development, Competitiveness and Shipping (Economy) after her predecessor Michalis Chrisochoidis took over the Ministry of Civil Protection . In the parliamentary elections in May 2012, she was eliminated; their party only got 13% and lost 30 percentage points.
