Mariliza Xenogiannakopoulou ( Greek Μαριλίζα Ξενογιαννακοπούλου , born February 20, 1963 in Athens ) is a Greek politician .

Life

She studied law at the University of Athens and public law at the Sorbonne (University of Paris I) .

She has been politically active since school. In 1986 she started as a research assistant for PASOK in the European Parliament and in the following year she was entrusted by Andreas Papandreou with the representation of PASOK on the board of the Union of the Social Democratic Party of Europe (1989–1991) and the Socialist International (1990–1992).

From 1991 to 1995 she worked as a member of the Political Secretariat of the Group of the Party of European Socialists in the European Parliament and then as Deputy Office Manager of the Greek Commissioner at the European Commission in Brussels (1995–1999).

From 2002 to March 2004 she was Secretary General of the Greek Ministry of Commerce.

In the 2004 European elections she was elected as a member of the European Parliament. In the 2007 and 2009 elections , she was elected to the Greek Parliament as a member of PASOK . From October 2009 to September 2010 she was Minister for Health and Social Solidarity, and on 7 September 2010 she was appointed Deputy Foreign Minister. She resigned from this office on February 10, 2012.
