Henk Vredeling

Hendrikus (Henk) Vredeling (born November 20, 1924 in Amersfoort , † October 27, 2007 in Huis ter Heide, today to Zeist ) was a Dutch agronomist and politician ( Partij van de Arbeid ).

Early years

Vredeling grew up in a family that belonged to the Ecclesiastical Fellowship of the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands , but already renounced the Christian faith in his youth. During the Second World War he joined the resistance movement . After the war he studied agricultural science at the Landbouw University in Wageningen . From 1950 to 1955 he took on an advisory role at the Algemene Nederlandse Landarbeidersbond , and later at the Algemene Nederlandse Agrarian Bedrijfsbond (ANAB).

In 1956 he was elected to the Second Chamber of the States General for his party , where he was his party's spokesman for the Agriculture Department until 1974 . He was also elected by the States General to the European Parliament , where he was active from 1958 to 1973.
