Wilhelm Haferkamp

Wilhelm Haferkamp (born July 1, 1923 in Duisburg , † January 17, 1995 in Brussels ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

After high school and military service, Haferkamp studied economics and social sciences at the University of Cologne .

From 1955 to 1960 he was a member of the WDR Broadcasting Council. As a member of the trade union trade, banks and insurance companies , he was state chairman of the DGB North Rhine-Westphalia from 1957 to 1962 , then until 1967 the chief department head for economic policy in the DGB main board.

From 1967 to 1973 he was European Commissioner for Energy , from 1970 to 1973 he was also responsible for the internal market. Then he was responsible for economics , finances and budget until 1977 . From 1977 to 1985 he was Foreign Commissioner , from 1970 to 1985 also Vice-President of the European Commission .

From 1962 to 1966 and again in 1967 for three months he held a mandate in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .
