Edoardo Martino
Edoardo Martino (born April 20, 1910 in Alessandria ; † December 5, 1999 in Rome ) was an Italian politician ( DC ) who served as EU commissioner from 1967 to 1970 .
Life
Martino studied at the University of Pisa . He took part in the Italian army in World War II , returned to Italy in 1943 and participated in the resistance against the German occupation in Italy.
After the end of the war he took over a professorship in Rome. From 1948 to 1963 he was a member of the Italian House of Representatives for the Democrazia Cristiana , where he held numerous functions. From 1958 to 1967 he was a member of the European Parliament . He then took over the office of Foreign Commissioner in the Rey Commission until 1970 .
