Marcelo Ebrard (* 1959 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican politician and was Prime Minister of the Federal District of Mexico City from 2006 to 2012. He has been Foreign Minister in the Obrador cabinet since December 1, 2018 .

Ebrard was born in 1959 in the Mexican capital, the son of an architect. He attended the El Colegio de México and later studied at the École nationale d'administration in Strasbourg .

On his return to Mexico, Ebrard joined the city administration.

In his political career Ebrard belonged first to the Partido Revolucionario Institucional , later to the Partido de Centro Democrático , which has now been dissolved , from which he resigned in 2000 to support the alliance for Mexico City and Obrador . Since 2005 he has been a member of the Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD). In July 2006, as a candidate for this party, he won the election for head of government of Mexico City with 47.05 percent of the votes, ahead of Demetrio Sodi from the National Action Party (PAN) with 27.66 percent. Ebrard took over the office from his predecessor Alejandro Encinas (PRD), who ruled since July 2005. On December 5, 2012, he handed over the office to Miguel Ángel Mancera , who served as Attorney General of the federal district until January 2012 during Ebrard's reign.

A week after his 2006 election victory, Ebrard married former television actress Mariagna Pratts .
