Franciscus Henricus Johannes Joseph (Frans) Andriessen (born April 2, 1929 in Utrecht ; † March 22, 2019 in Bilthoven) was a Dutch politician (initially the Catholic People's Party (KVP) , later the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) , successor party to the KVP).

Career

In 1967 he became a member of the Tweede Kamer of the Dutch Parliament for the KVP. From 1977 to 1980 he was Minister of Finance of the Netherlands .

Andriessen was European Commissioner from 1981 to 1993 . From 1981 to 1985 he was responsible for relations with parliament and competition in the Thorn Commission . From 1985 to 1989 he was responsible for Agriculture and Fisheries in the Delors I Commission . From 1989 to 1993 he was responsible for external relations and trade policy in the Delors II Commission .
