The Commissioner for Institutional Relations is a member of the European Commission . The department was set up in the Ortoli Commission in 1973 to coordinate relations with the European Parliament . Since the Barroso I Commission in 2004, its competence has also been extended to the other institutions of the European Union . The incumbents always had other responsibilities in the commission.
The current incumbent is Maroš Šefčovič . He is also responsible for the foresight and is also Vice-President of the Commission ( Von der Leyen Commission ).
