The Commissioner for Administration is a member of the European Commission . He is responsible for the personnel administration of the authority, which has around 25,000 employees. The office has existed in various forms since 1981; from 1999 the commissioner for administration was one of the vice-presidents of the commission . From 2004 to 2010, the department also included audits and the fight against fraud. In the Barroso II Commission , which took office in February 2010, the administrative portfolio falls under the responsibility of the Commissioner for Institutional Relations , while audits and the fight against fraud are transferred to the Taxation and Customs Union portfolio.
