Commissioner for Climate Protection

The Commissioner for Climate Protection is a member of the European Commission . When the Barroso II Commission took office in February 2010, the department was spun off from the position of Environment Commissioner . The Commissioner for Climate Protection is responsible for the Directorate-General for Climate Policy (abbreviated DG Clima from Directorate-General for Climate Action ). The main topic is the climate policy of the European Union , which includes in particular the EU emissions trading system .

The incumbent is the Dutchman Frans Timmermans .
