MacIsaac and MacEachern first met at an artist get-together in Toronto when MacEachern was a member of the band Zoebliss. MacIsaac also became a member of the band for a short time, and the pair continued to work together when Zoebliss split in 1999. At first they called themselves Madviolet; later they renamed themselves Madison Violet.

They released three self-published albums in Canada and were signed to True North Records for their fourth album, No Fool for Trying . In Germany they are under contract with Lake / India Records.

The duo repeatedly goes on extensive tours through Canada, Europe and Australia. In 2009 they received the Canadian Folk Award for "Best Vocal Group" and in 2010 they won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the Folk category.
