Health Commissioner
The Commissioner for Health is an official title for a Commissioner of the European Union . The Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety is attached to it. The department was created in 1999 with responsibility for health and consumer protection and was split up after the EU expanded in 2007 .
In the Barroso II Commission , both departments were reunited from 2010 onwards. In addition, the area of pharmaceuticals , which was previously part of the Enterprise and Industry portfolio, has since come under the responsibility of the Commissioner for Health. In the Juncker Commission , the health department was expanded to include responsibility for food safety. The current Commissioner for Health is Stella Kyriakides .
