Commissioner for Education and Culture
The Commissioner for Education and Culture is a member of the European Commission .
The office of the Commissioner for Education, Training and Culture has existed with different responsibilities since 1985, with an interruption from 1995 to 1999. It reports to the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture , which consists of five directorates with up to six units each and one task Force exists. The Authority's magazine, a quarterly called The Magazine , is published in six languages in German, English, French, Italian, Polish and Spanish.
The area of multilingualism became the responsibility of the Commissioner for Education and Culture in 2004. From 2007 to 2010, however, it formed its own portfolio until it returned to the responsibility of the Education Commissioner when the Barroso II Commission took office in February 2010. In addition, since then the area of youth, which was previously not specifically assigned to any commissioner, has been part of the education department.
