Grigoris Varfis
Grigoris Varfis ( Greek Γρηγόρης Βάρφης ; * January 2, 1927 in Athens ; † September 10, 2017 ibid.) Was a Greek socialist politician .
In the second half of 1983 Varfis was President of the Council of the European Union . He was later a member of the European Parliament from July 24, 1984 to January 5, 1985 , where he represented the interests of the Socialist Party (PASOK) . Subsequently, until 1989 he was EC Commissioner for Relations with the European Parliament and Regional Policy (1985) and then Structural Instruments and Consumer Protection (1986 to 1989) in the first Commission of Jacques Delors .
