Paweł Samecki

Paweł Samecki (born March 12, 1958 in Łódź ) is a Polish economist and politician .

After studying international economic relations at the University of Łódź in 1981, Samecki pursued an academic career there with research stays at the London School of Economics (1990).

From 1991 to 2002 he performed various tasks in the ministries of the Polish government. Most recently, he was on the Management Board of the National Bank of Poland . From July 2009 he replaced Danuta Hübner as Commissioner for Regional Policy in the EU Commission , which became a member of the EU Parliament . His successor as commissioner was the Austrian Johannes Hahn in February 2010 .

Samecki is married and has a son and a daughter.
