David LeNeveu (born May 23, 1983 in Fernie , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with HC Slovan Bratislava in the KHL .

Career

David LeNeveu began his career as a hockey player with the Nanaimo Clippers, for which he was active in the British Columbia Hockey League in the 2000/01 season . He then played for the Cornell University team for two years . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the second round as a total of 46th player by the Phoenix Coyotes .

First, however, the goalkeeper ran for a season each for Phoenix farm teams from the American Hockey League , the Springfield Falcons and Utah Grizzlies before he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Coyotes in the 2005/06 season . Overall, LeNeveu stood between the posts for Phoenix 15 times this season. In the following year, the Canadian came on five more NHL missions, but he completed the majority of the games in the years 2005 to 2008 for their AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage .

In February 2008, LeNeveu was given over to the New York Rangers in a five-player transfer deal , but only played for their AHL farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack, until the end of the season . On July 7, 2008, he was committed by the Anaheim Ducks , who used him in the 2008/09 season, however, exclusively in their AHL farm team, at the Iowa Chops .

LeNeveu moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian ice hockey league for the 2009/10 season , where he was initially supposed to form a duo with Bobby Goepfert , who was released shortly after the start of the championship. He finally took turns in goal with Reinhard Divis , but became the first goalkeeper towards the end of the season. With the club he was finally able to win the Austrian championship. In July 2010 he moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets , who use him on their farm team, the Springfield Falcons, in the American Hockey League. In November 2012 he was signed to replace Alex Westlund by Black Wings Linz from Erste Bank Eishockey Liga , with whom he reached the semifinals.

For the following season he returned to North America and completed games for various teams from the minor leagues, in particular the South Carolina Stingrays . In December 2014 he was signed by HC Slovan Bratislava from the KHL, but was only used once for 8:38 minutes before he left the team in January 2015 and thus ended his career as an active player.

Between 2014 and 2017 he then worked as a goalkeeping coach and later co-owner of the Nanaimo Clippers junior team.

International

For Canada , LeNeveu took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2003 , where he finished second with his team.
