Reinhard Divis (born July 4, 1975 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian ice hockey goalkeeper and today's coach. He was the first Austrian ice hockey player to play a game in the National Hockey League . Most recently he was under contract with Vienna Capitals .

Career

His first club was WAT Stadlau in Vienna. His professional career began at VEU Feldkirch , with which he won the Austrian championship five times en suite (1994–1998) . In 1998 he won the final of the European Hockey League with VEU Feldkirch. After VEU Feldkirch got into financial difficulties, Divis left the club and moved to Leksands IF in Sweden for two seasons .

In the 2000 NHL Entry Draft , Divis was drawn by the St. Louis Blues as 261st, followed by a move to America in 2001 . In his first season 2001/02 Divis had to prove himself in the farm team Worcester IceCats in the AHL, but sat in between due to an illness of the goalkeeper at the St. Louis Blues on the bench. He was substituted on that season in the game on April 7, 2002 against Colorado Avalanche for 25 minutes, in which he received no goal.

In 2002/03 Divis played 2 games with only one goal, both games ended with a victory for his team. In the 2003/04 season Divis came on 13 missions (with a total of 29 goals conceded) during the season and on one use in the playoff.

In the 2004/05 season Divis played for the NHL - Lockouts at EC VSV in Carinthia, but came only 29 games since he suffered a shoulder injury that also its use in the 2005 World Series impossible made in Austria. The EC VSV occupied fourth place in the table this season, in the goalkeeper statistics they landed in third place with 91.96% saved shots in 29 games. In the 2005/06 season he played again as a substitute goalie for the St. Louis Blues, but was in between given to the farm team Peoria Rivermen in the AHL . In total, Divis was on the ice in 29 NHL games.

Not least for family reasons, Divis decided to return to Austria after this season and signed a two-year contract with the Red Bulls Salzburg , with whom he again won the Austrian championship title in 2007, largely with the best catch rate and the lowest goals against goals in the league contributed. For the 2008/09 season he signed with the Swedish club Färjestad BK , with whom he won the championship title, but was then without a club for lack of a contract extension. At the end of October 2009 Divis signed a new contract with Red Bull Salzburg, replacing goalkeeper Bobby Goepfert . Since the contract expired after the 2010/11 season, he moved to the Vienna Capitals within the EBEL .

Reinhard Divis is married and has two children, Dominic and Nicole. For the 100th anniversary of the ÖEHV , Divis was elected Austrian goalkeeper of the century.

International

In the junior division, Divis played for Austria at the U18 B European Championships in 1992 and 1993 and the U20 B World Championships in 1994 and 1995 .

Divis made his debut on April 9, 1994 in the 7-2 defeat in the friendly against Germany in Feldkirch in the Austrian national team . He was at the A-World Championships in 1996 , 1998 , 1999 and 2000 , when he achieved the second-best catch quota of the tournament after the Canadian José Théodore , and at the B-World Cup in 1997 , when he was not used, in the Austrian squad. After switching to the current division system, he played with the Alpine countries at the top division World Championships in 2001 , 2004 and 2007 . In 2006 , when he achieved the lowest number of goals conceded in the tournament, and in 2010 , when he had the second-best catch rate and the second-lowest goal against goal of the tournament behind the Japanese Masahito Haruna , he kept the goal in Division I and made it into the top -Division.

Divis also stood in the can for the Austrian national team at the Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998 and in Salt Lake City in 2002 . In qualifying for the games in Nagano he was also part of the Austrian squad, but was not used.

Initially, he mainly looked after the youngsters from Austria, whose goalkeeping coach he was in Division I at the U18 World Cup in 2014 and the U20 World Cup in 2014 , 2015 and 2016 . At the European Youth Olympic Festival 2015 he coached the goalkeepers of the Austrian U17 team.
