Christopher Robert "Chris" Higgins (born June 2, 1983 in Smithtown , New York ) is a former American ice hockey player who has worked for the Montréal Canadiens , New York Rangers , Calgary Flames , Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks in the course of his career played in the National Hockey League .
Career
The 1.83-meter-tall left winger played for the Yale University team in ECAC Hockey , a league in the game of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , during his college years before being 14th in the first round of the Canadiens in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft selected ( drafted ). In 2002, Higgins was voted ECAC Rookie of the Year and the ECAC All-Rookie Team. A year later he made the jump to the ECAC First All-Star Team and was named ECAC Player of the Year.
Already in the 2003/04 season , the left-shooter was twice on the ice for the Montréal Canadiens in the NHL, the rest of the time, as well as the lockout in the following season , Higgins spent with the Hamilton Bulldogs , a farm team of the Canadiens in the American Hockey League . Since 2005 the striker has played regularly for the "Habs" in the highest North American professional league. Higgins scored his first NHL goal on October 6, 2005 in a game against the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden, in his home state New York . In July 2010, he joined the Florida Panthers . They gave it to the Vancouver Canucks at the end of February 2011 shortly before the trade deadline .
International
With the US national junior team , Christopher Higgins took part in the U20 World Championships in 2002 and 2003 . In a total of 14 finals, the attacker scored seven goals and five assists . In the senior sector, he made his debut at the 2009 World Championships and made six appearances.
