Mariann Fischer Boel [ maˈri̯an ˈfɪʃɐ ˈboːl ] (born April 15, 1943 in Aasum on Funen ) is a Danish politician of the right-wing liberal party Venstre and former EU commissioner.

Life

Fischer Boel is married and owns several farms in Denmark with her husband Hans Fischer Boel . This also included the Østergård estate near Munkebo , which she has now passed on to her daughter and son-in-law. Her husband received substantial subsidies from the EU through the farm, some of which exceeded 50,000 euros a year. She was able to dispel the criticism that then became loud in the Danish public.

Career in Denmark

1982 to 1991 and 1994 to 1997 she was councilor of Munkebo , 1986 to 1990 also the second deputy mayor of the municipality. From 1994 to 2001 she headed several parliamentary commissions as president, from 1994 to 1998 the parliamentary commission “Food and Agriculture”, then for one year “Trade and Industry” and then until 2001 “Tax Affairs”.

In 2002 she was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food in the government of Anders Fogh Rasmussen .

Careers in the EU

From November 2004 to February 2010 she was EU Commissioner in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development . She was introduced to office on November 18, 2004. In 2007 she submitted a proposal for the EU wine market reform in which she wants to ban the term cider . Opponents of this reform formulated, among other things, the Mainz resolution , which political and professional representatives of the Assembly of Wine-Growing Regions of Europe (AREV) had already outlined on September 4, 2007 in Alba Iulia .
