Raymond Vouel

Jean Baptiste Raymond Vouel (born April 8, 1923 in Rümelingen , † February 12, 1987 ) was a Luxembourg politician of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party .

In 1942 he obtained his diploma at the commercial and industrial school in Esch . Vouel trained as an economist and later worked as an editor of the "Journal d'Esch". From 1963 he was a member of the Esch town council.

From July 15, 1964 to February 6, 1968, he was State Secretary of the Werner-Cravatte government, responsible for health, labor, social security and mining. On June 15, 1974 he became Deputy Prime Minister of the DP-LSAP government of Gaston Thorn . On July 19, 1976, he was nominated by Luxembourg to the European Commission and appointed Commissioner for Competition by President Roy Jenkins . He held this post from 1977 to 1981.
