Henry Cravatte

Henry Cravatte (born May 21, 1911 in Diekirch , † November 4, 1990 in Ettelbruck ) was a Luxembourg lawyer and politician of the LSAP .

Cravatte studied law and became Diekirch's attorney in 1936 . His political career began in 1951 when he was put on the list of the Labor Party . He was elected to the local council and later mayor of Diekirch. From 1953 to 1957 he was a member of the Comité-directeur and from 1959 to 1969 President of the party. From 1958 to 1959 he was State Secretary for the Economy. In 1959 Cravatte was elected to the Chambre des Députés , the Luxembourg parliament. In 1964 he became Vice President of the Government and Minister of the Interior. After the founding of the Social Democratic Party , he resigned as president on May 3, 1970 and joined the newly founded party.

From 1968 until 1978, Cravatte was elected to the Chambre every five years. From 1962 to 1964 and again from 1976 to 1978 he was President of the Conference of Local and Regional Authorities in Europe . On March 14, 1971, he became President of the Labor Party. He held this post until 1980. Henry Cravatte died on November 4, 1990 at the age of 79 in Ettelbruck .
