from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs is a member of the European Commission . He is responsible for coordinating the economic policies of the Member States, such as economic recovery programs , and therefore plays a key role in the Commission. The function of economic commissioner has existed since the establishment of the European Economic Community in 1958. Since the beginning of efforts for a European monetary union in the early 1970s, this has also been the responsibility of the department. In some cases, the financial planning and budget department was also linked to the economic department.

The current incumbent in the Commission Von der Leyen has been Paolo Gentiloni since the end of 2019 , who is also the Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union .
