The Partito Socialista Riformista Italiano (Socialist Reform Party of Italy) existed from 1912 to 1926 and was founded by politicians who were fundamentally opposed to the declaration of war by Italy against Turkey in the Italo-Turkish War over Ottoman colonies in Libya and some Greek islands Giovanni Giolitti's government, however, gave their consent for patriotic reasons and were therefore excluded from the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI). The party endeavored to move closer to the line of government by advocating social reforms rather than revolutionary socialism . The party also supported Italy's entry into the First World War . The party chairman Leonida Bissolati briefly became a minister in 1916.

Their motto was (after Gino Piva ): “Socialism is neither revolutionary nor reformist; he is a child of his time ... Socialism must not know a priori: it must be able to act as the current circumstances allow. "

The initiator and party chairman was Leonida Bissolati, important members were Giacomo Matteotti , Ivanoe Bonomi and Meuccio Ruini .

In the parliamentary elections in 1913 , the party achieved 3.9% of the vote and 19 seats, in 1919 only 1.5% and 6 seats. In view of the increasing pressure on the political parties from the rule of fascism , Ivanoe Bonomi founded the Lega Democratica Nazionale from the remnants of the party together with other left democrats , which however remained meaningless and was forced to dissolve by the fascists.
