Remo Gaspari

Remo Gaspari (born July 10, 1921 in Gissi , Province of Chieti , Abruzzo , † July 19, 2011 ) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who for more than forty years was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) as well as among others Minister of Health and Defense .

Life

Deputy and Undersecretary of State

Gaspari completed after school to study law and was then as a lawyer working.

On June 25, 1953 he was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei deputati) , in which he represented the interests of the DC for more than forty years from the second to the end of the eleventh legislative period on April 14, 1994. During his long membership in parliament he was a member of numerous committees as well as several special committees and ad hoc bodies. Between July 1958 and June 1960 he served as secretary of the Committee on Prime Minister Affairs, Home Affairs, Culture and Public Relations (Commissione Affari della Presidenza del Consiglio, Affari Interni e di Culto, Enti Pubblici) .

Prime Minister Fernando Tambroni appointed him on April 2, 1960 as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications for the first time in a government office, which he held in the Tambroni cabinet until July 26, 1960. Gaspari also assumed the post of Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Giovanni Leone from June 22 to December 4, 1963 and in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Aldo Moro from July 25, 1964 to February 23, 1966.

Fifth and sixth legislative periods

Gaspari was appointed to a ministerial office for the first time on August 5, 1969 by Prime Minister Mariano Rumor in his second government as Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation (Ministro dei Trasporti e dell'Aviazione civile) and held this office until March 27, 1970.

A few months later, Prime Minister Emilio Colombo appointed him Minister without Portfolio (Ministro senza Portafoglio) in his cabinet on August 6, 1970 . As such, he was charged with reforming the public service until February 17, 1972.

In the second government of Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti , Gaspari served as Minister of Health (Ministro della Sanità) between June 30, 1972 and July 7, 1973 .

Eighth, ninth and tenth legislative terms

After he had not held a government office for several years, Gaspari was appointed Minister for Post and Telecommunications (Ministro delle Poste e Telecomunicazioni) in his first cabinet on June 28, 1981 by Prime Minister Giovanni Spadolini . He also held this ministerial office in the second government of Spadolini and the fifth government of Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani until August 4, 1983.

In the first government formed by Prime Minister Bettino Craxi on August 4, 1983 , he was again minister without portfolio and as such was responsible for the public service until August 1, 1986.

In the sixth cabinet of Prime Minister Fanfani Gaspari served between April 17 and July 28, 1987 as Defense Minister (Ministro della Difesa) .

Most recently Gaspari held from April 13, 1991 to June 28, 1992 in the seventh government Prime Minister Andreotti again the office of minister without portfolio and was again responsible for the civil service.
