Cabinet Cossiga I
The Cossiga I cabinet ruled Italy from August 4, 1979 to April 4, 1980, followed by the Cossiga II cabinet for a short time . Prime Minister Francesco Cossiga (who became President in 1985 ) was commissioned to form a government after the parliamentary elections on June 27, 1979 , in which his Christian Democratic Party (DC) was again the strongest party with over 38 percent of the votes cast. The DC formed a coalition with smaller parties; the ministers came from the DC, the social democratic PSDI and the liberal PLI .
