List of presidents of Sicily
This page lists the presidents of the Sicily Region since World War II .
After the special statute of the autonomous region of Sicily was signed by King Umberto II on May 15, 1946 , the first regional assembly of Sicily was elected in 1947. From 1947 to 2000 the president of the regional government ( Presidente della Giunta Regionale ) was elected by the regional assembly. In 2001 direct elections were introduced by the population and the official title was changed to "President of the Region" ( Presidente della Regione ).
