Sebastiano Musumeci

Sebastiano (Nello) Musumeci (born January 21, 1955 in Militello in Val di Catania ) is an Italian politician who was a member of the European Parliament for the Alleanza Nazionale from 1994 to 2009 . From 1994 to 2003 he was also President of the Province of Catania . In 2005 Musumeci left the Alleanza nazionale and founded its own party. This Alleanza Siciliana party wants to offer a policy beyond the big blocs. In the Sicilian regional elections on October 28, 2012, Musumeci was defeated as a joint candidate of the right-wing party spectrum with 25.7% Rosario Crocetta , who came with 96,000 votes ahead of 30.5%.

In the Sicilian regional elections on November 5, 2017, Musumeci received 39.8% (36 seats) ahead of Giancarlo Cancelleri ( M5S ) with 34.7% (20 seats) and became President of the Sicily Region .

Musumeci has three sons. His father Vittorio is also politically active and was mayor of Militello from 2003 to 2008.
