Leopoldo Elia

Leopoldo Elia (born November 4, 1925 in Fano ; † October 5, 2008 in Rome ) was an Italian lawyer and politician .

In 1976 Elia was elected by the Italian Parliament as a judge of the Constitutional Court, from 1981 to 1985 he was president of it. In 1987 he was elected to the Senate on the list of Democrazia Cristiana . From 1992 to 1994 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies . In 1996 he became a senator again, this time for the Ulivo .

In the government of Prime Minister Ciampi he was Minister for Reforms of Electoral Law and Institutions from 1993 to 1994, and from April 19 to May 10, 1994 he served as Foreign Minister of his country.

As a professor of constitutional law, he worked at several universities and author of numerous monographs and essays.
