Gustavo Zagrebelsky

Gustavo Zagrebelsky (born June 1, 1943 in San Germano Chisone ) is an Italian lawyer , professor emeritus and former President of the Italian Constitutional Court .

Life

Zagrebelsky taught constitutional law and general theory of public law at the Università di Torino . On September 13, 1995, he became a judge of the Constitutional Court and was its President from January 28 to September 13, 2004. He is a member of the Turin Academy of Sciences and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei . He is a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Chile .

He also works as a journalist, formerly at La Stampa , now (as of 2011) at La Repubblica . He was the presidency of both the Libertà e Giustizia association and the Democrazia Biennale, founded in 2009.

Zagrebelsky spoke out against the planned reforms at the constitutional referendum in Italy in 2016 . Vladimiro Zagrebelsky (* 1940), former judge at the European Court of Human Rights, is his brother.
