Ken Block (born November 21, 1967 in Long Beach , California ) is an American rally and rallycross driver, co-founder of the DC Shoes brand and multiple medalist at the X-Games . Block has three children with his wife, Lucy Block. His closest friends include Rob Dyrdek and Travis Pastrana .
rally
Block, who has been very successful in the Rally America series since 2005 , came to rallying through Travis Pastrana and was named Rookie of the Year in his very first season . From 2005 to 2009 he competed in Rally America for the Subaru Rally Team USA in a Subaru Impreza . Since 2007 Ken Block has also started in a number of WRC rallies. So far, however, he has only been able to achieve great success at the Rally America. Ken Block's rally vehicles are always lavishly wrapped.
In early January 2010, the Ford team announced that Block would drive several outings in a Ford Fiesta World Rally Championship (WRC) during the 2010 rally season . His first start was at the Rally Mexico , where he had a minor accident. His best World Championship result of the 2010 season , with a total of seven starts, was a ninth place at the Rally Catalonia . He also started with his Monster World Rally Team in the Rally America series in a Ford Fiesta from the OlsbergsMSE team from Sweden.
In the 2011 season he and his team will start again in the World Rally Championship . His first appearances this year could not be described as successful. After completing ten world championship rallies, 25 drivers had already achieved championship points in the drivers’s world championship , 12 of them in the lower classes. The block starting in the strongest class had not yet received any points. At the 2011 Rally Portugal , Block did not make it to the start of the rally because he had a serious accident while warming up , known as the shake down . At the 2011 Rally France he achieved his best result so far in the WRC and his first championship points with eighth place. At the end of the season he reached 22nd place in the drivers' world championship with six championship points. In 2012, Block managed to get 2 points each in the Rally Mexico and the Rally New Zealand. He was 28th out of 36 drivers in the overall standings. In 2013 he finished 7th in Mexico, his best finish in the WRC so far.
Rallycross
In the fall of 2011, Block had confirmed to American media that he was considering withdrawing from the World Rally Championship and joining the American Global RallyCross Championship in 2012 , which he did not fully do. After completing six runs in the series, he finished 5th overall, which was won by his brand colleague Tanner Foust . The X-Games automobile competition is also part of the GRC . Here he showed his best performance when he crossed the finish line in the finale in Los Angeles on July 1, 2012 in second place behind winner Sébastien Loeb , even though a tire had burst about halfway through the race.
After taking part in the Global RallyCross Championship for several years, Block completed all 12 races in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2016 .
