Romain Dumas

Romain Dumas (born December 14, 1977 in Alès ) is a French racing driver .
Dumas started karting in 1992 before switching to formula racing in 1996 and taking part in the French Formula Renault . In 1998 he took part in the French Formula 3 championship . Romain Dumas was together with Marc Lieb and Neel Jani FIA World Endurance Champion of the 2016 season.
Career
He tested a Formula 3000 Monoposto for Team Oreca in 1999 and a Renault F1 in 2002 . In 2004 he tested for the Champ Car Team Conquest Racing. However, he did not drive a race in any of these formula series.
In 2001 and 2002 he started in the Formula 3000 Euro Series.
Since 2001 he has competed in every 24-hour race at Le Mans , where he achieved overall victory in the Audi R15 TDI in 2010 together with Timo Bernhard and Mike Rockenfeller . In 2004 he moved to the American Le Mans Series and drove for Alex Job Racing in the GT2 category. From 2006 he started for Penske Racing in a Porsche RS Spyder and in 2007 won the drivers' championship in the LMP2 class together with Timo Bernhard.
In 2007, 2008 and 2009 he won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring together with Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb and Marcel Tiemann for the Manthey Racing team .
Dumas has been a works driver at Porsche for many years and remained so for Audi during his sports car days at Joest Racing . Since 2013 he has been driving exclusively for Porsche again, driving the Porsche 919 Hybrid in the FIA World Endurance Championship .
On November 25, 2016, Porsche announced that Romain Dumas and his teammate Marc Lieb would leave the LMP1 team with the two Le Mans prototypes 919 Hybrid at the end of the 2016 season and take on new tasks within Porsche. This ended his long career as a Porsche works driver.
Pikes Peak
In 2014/16/17 he won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with vehicles from Norma Auto Concept .
In March 2018, Volkswagen announced that it would take part in the 96th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the unlimited class with Romain Dumas as driver with an electric racing car. In the win on June 24, 2018, he set Pikes Peak in the VW ID R with 7 minutes and 57 seconds set a new record.

Romain Dumas has been holding the record time for electric vehicles on the Nordschleife since June 2019 with the VW ID R Pikes Peak (6: 05.336 minutes, average speed 206.96 km / h).
Goodwood Festival of Speed
At the Hill Climb Shootout of the Goodwood Festival of Speed , Romain Dumas has held the track record of 39.9 seconds with the VW ID R Pikes Peak since 2019.
