Matthew "Matt" Rao (born May 3, 1994 ) is a British racing driver . He started in the European Formula 3 championship in 2015 .

Career

Rao began his motorsport career in karting in 2009 , where he remained active until 2010. In 2011, Rao switched to Fluid Motorsport in formula racing and competed in some British Formula Ford races . He finished second in the scholarship class . In 2012, Rao stayed with Fluid Motorsport in the British Formula Ford. He finished tenth overall. In addition, he took part in some races of the Dutch Formula Ford for the racing team and came 21st in the drivers' standings. For Hillspeed , Rao also took part in two races each of the BARC Formula Renault and its winter series.

In 2013 Rao started for Hillspeed in the BARC Formula Renault. With a third place as the best result, he finished the season in 15th place. In early 2014 , Rao took part in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand for Giles Motorsport . There he was 14th in the drivers' championship. He then went to Fortec Motorsports in the British Formula 3 Championship . Rao won five races. With 283 to 285 points, he was defeated by his teammate Martin Cao at the end of the season and finished second overall.

In 2015 , Rao received a cockpit in the European Formula 3 championship at Fortec Motorsports . Two 14th places were his best results.
