75. The 24-hour race at Le Mans , the 75 s Grand Prix d'Endurance les 24 Heures du Mans , including 24 Heures Du Mans, Le Mans , was from 16 to 17 June 2007 at the Circuit des 24 Heures instead of.

The race

In 2007 Audi, where the diesel concept was still being pursued with the R10 TDI , received a new opponent in the Peugeot works team . Developed by Peugeot Sport, the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP was presented as a model for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in September 2006 . The race car was a V12 - diesel engine driven with 5.5-liter displacement and an opening angle of 100 °. This gave it an output of around 515 kW (700 hp) and developed a maximum torque of 1,200 Nm. The FAP diesel particulate filter system was taken from series production. The test work was carried out by the experienced Éric Hélary , who was a substitute driver at Le Mans. Two prototypes have been registered for the competition, which of Stéphane Sarrazin , Pedro Lamy , Sebastien Bourdais , Nicolas Minassian , Marc Gené and the Canadian Formula 1 racing driver from 2007 Jacques Villeneuve were piloted. With the 01, a new racing car was also used by Henri Pescarolo .

In the race, the Peugeots could not keep up with the Audi’s pace from the start and had to accept the failure of the car with the number seven on Sunday afternoon after an engine failure. Audi also lost two vehicles. Mike Rockenfeller had an accident on Saturday when it started to rain and permanently destroyed the car. At 7 o'clock in the morning on Sunday, Rinaldo Capello in the Audi with the number 2 lost a wheel when approaching the Indianapolis curve and had to give up too. The engine of the second Peugeot was also already defective just before the end, so that Bourdais waited ten minutes before the start-and-finish straight for the checkered flag, actually forbidden by the regulations, but the officials turned a blind eye.

At the finish, this Peugeot, classified in second place, was ten laps behind the Audi of Marco Werner , Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela , who were able to repeat their previous year's victory.
