Johannes van Overbeek
Johannes van Overbeek (born April 14, 1973 in Sacramento ) is a former American racing driver .
Career in motorsport
After starting out in karting , van Overbeek started GT racing in 1995 and achieved third place overall in the SCCA National Championship in his first full racing season . In 1999 he got into a BMW M3 from the Prototype Technology Group , and in his debut season in this racing series achieved third place in the final standings in the GT class of the American Le Mans Series . In the following years he stayed in the American Le Mans Series and also drove in other racing series, such as the Speedvision World Challenge and the Grand-Am Sports Car Series , where he was also third overall in the GT class in 2003 (vehicle Porsche 996 GT3- R ) was.
Between 1999 and the beginning of the 2016 season, van Overbeek competed in 200 sports car races. In addition to two overall wins, he was able to celebrate 9 box office hits. Between 2004 and 2008 he placed five times in a row among the top three of the final standings of the GT and GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series. In 2004 and 2006 he was runner-up; 2005 , 2007 and 2008 third overall. In 2012 he again won the runner-up championship.
Since 2010 Johannes van Oberbeek has been part of the team of US beverage billionaire Ed Brown . In January 2016 he celebrated with this team and the driver partners Brown, Scott Sharp and Luís Felipe Derani on a Ligier JS P2 with the overall victory in the 24-hour race of Daytona, his greatest success to date in international sports car racing. After the Petit Le Mans 2018 , he announced his retirement from active racing
