Johann Philipp Benjamin von Weger (born September 3, 1736 in Bischdorf (Groß-Wartenberg district), † January 12, 1809 in Neisse ) was a Prussian major general and most recently in command of the Neisse fortress .

origin

His father was Johann Jakob von Weger , heir to Bischdorf and Bukowine (Groß-Wartenberg district). This was from Emperor Karl VI. in Bohemia and King Frederick William I in the Prussian nobility applicable Service. His sister Helene Henriette Eleonore (* December 25, 1752; † May 24, 1792) was married to District Administrator Christian Wilhelm von Teichmann (* June 11, 1747; † February 14, 1816).

Life

Johann Philipp went into Saxon service in 1749 and came as a volunteer in the Polish hussar regiment. In 1751 he came to the Flemming Infantry Regiment as a Junker. Shortly before the Seven Years' War on October 15, 1756, he switched to Prussian service and was there in Infantry Regiment No. 7, but only as a musketeer. During the war he fought in the battles near Kolin , Zorndorf , Kay , Kunersdorf and Torgau . He was wounded near Kunersdorf and was taken prisoner near Torgau. He also fought in the battles of Strehlen and Wittenberg and in the siege of Dresden. At that time he was on May 25, 1758 ensign, on September 22, 1758 second lieutenant and on January 31, 1762 premier lieutenant.

After the war he became staff captain on February 12, 1771 and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On March 1, 1779 he became a captain and company commander. On July 15, 1789 he became major, on June 16, 1798 lieutenant colonel and on June 14, 1799 colonel. On October 14, 1800 he was appointed commander of the 7th Infantry Regiment. In addition, he received the Pour le Mérite on December 9, 1802 at a parade in Stargard in Pomerania . On March 19, 1805, he was appointed major general and, due to his age, was transferred to Fort Prussia near Neisse, which he received with a salary of 1200 thalers. During the Fourth Coalition War he defended the Neisse fortress against the French for 98 days. Although he finally had to capitulate on June 16, 1807, his behavior was praised by the Immediatinvestigation commission . After the war he received his resignation on December 9, 1808 and a pension of 800 thalers. He died on January 12, 1809 in Neisse and was buried there on January 15, 1809 on the main wall near the ice cellars .

Weger himself was very well read and educated and was one of those officers who had done a lot to train their soldiers and their children. For this he received praise from King Friedrich Wilhelm III. The plan to build a garrison school failed because of the lost war of 1806.

family

He married Juliane Charlotte von Teichmann on January 5, 1777 in Stettin (* May 31, 1752; † April 23, 1790) widow of Count Karl Wilhelm von Kessel and Zeutsch , the eldest daughter of Christian Friedrich von Teichmann (1710–1781) from Langendorf in Silesia. The couple had a son:
