Kessel is the name of an old noble family from Thuringia who first appeared in a document with Erich Kessil in 1388. The name changed between Keßeler , Keßlar and Kessel .

history

The direct family line begins with Klaus von Keßler († 1443), Gutsherr auf Zeutsch (today a district of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel ) and Schwarza (today a district of Rudolstadt ) and Zinsherr in Keßlar (today a district of Blankenhain ).

  • The family coat of arms shows in blue a golden hunting horn (medieval shape: Hifthorn with ribbon) over three (2: 1) golden stars. On the helmet with blue and gold covers, a gold star between two natural stag sticks .
  • The count's coat of arms from 1774 has the same shield as the family coat of arms. Shield holders are two crowned eagles standing against one another .
  • The baron's coat of arms from 1873 has the same shield as the family coat of arms. Shield holders are two natural hunting falcons with golden tied brown caps, which are equipped with three (blue-gold-blue) ostrich feathers .
