Keßlar is a district of the city of Blankenhain in the Weimarer Land district , Thuringia .

geography

Keßlar is 5.5 km southeast of Blankenhain. The country road 2309 leads through the village to Schöps with a connection to the federal motorway 4 .

history

On May 18, 876, the place was named as Kezzilari in a document of an Ingelheim protocol . Literally translated , the place means the place in the valley basin . In the 12th century the village also belonged to Count Wichmann, then the ownership structure changed continuously. 1.7 kilometers east of the village of Keßlar there was a castle (Trepnitz) at the entrance of the plateau into the Mordgraben . Emil Bauchspieß found the remains of the wall. In 1895 the remains were taken. There is no historical tradition of the castle. For the first time, the desolate corridor appeared in the interest register of the Lords of Kessel from 1450. The castle certainly served to control and protect the former connecting road Saale valley near Kahla , Altenberga , Kranichfeld and Blankenhain . The church is Romanesque. Agriculture shaped and shaped the village.
