Geography and geology

Thangelstedt is located about five kilometers southwest of Blankenhain. To the west in about the same distance you reach Kranichfeld via Tannroda on the state road 1060. The area of the corridor of the place is heavily cropped . Most of the shell limestone soils are remote from the groundwater.

history

In the autumn of 954 Otto I reconciled himself with his first-born son Liudolf and then won the victory over the Hungarians in the battle of the Lechfeld . That was also the first written mention of the place. Wolfgang Kahl records December 16, 954. First the place was called Sulfelt (Saufeld). In 1681 the place Saufeld was named Thangelstedt after the family name of the manor owner and hunter Christoph Friedrich von Thangel . This came into the possession of Castle and Gut Tannroda in 1683 . The village was then an imperial estate. In 1642 only 8% of the area could be worked due to high human losses during the Thirty Years War . Later and until now the place is characterized by agriculture. After the fall of the Wall, farmers found new ways of cultivating land.

The church

Today's church was built on the foundations of a previous church that had fallen victim to a fire and was consecrated on the 1st of Advent in 1897. The top of the church tower was renewed in 2007. The churchyard and garden were renovated in 2009/2010.

The lock

In the 15th century the old castle was built as a mansion and in 1488 sold by Count von Gleichen-Blankenhain to the von Bünau family . The above-mentioned Christoph Friedrich von Thangel, High Princely Councilor and Jägermeister in Weimar, acquired the manor in 1681 for 5000 guilders. At the beginning of the 20th century, the property was acquired by Baron von Gross, who owns it again today. ( Location → )
