history

On May 18, 876 the place was documented and archived for the first time. It is assumed that the place is one of the oldest villages in the area. Rottdorf means settlement in a cleared place . Agriculture has so far determined what is done in the village. In the 16th century, woad was grown . Large and medium-sized farmers worked the land. Rottdorf was also hit during the Thirty Years' War . After that, only 4% of the land was cultivated, so high were the losses of people, animals and farms. The town's church was first mentioned in 1119 . A few years ago a figure of Christ with no arms or legs was found on the floor of the church, which was given to the town church in Blankenhain after the restoration.
