The von Tangel or Thangel , were a primeval, old knightly, Thuringian family on Tannroda .

history

The family is said to have been mentioned for the first time in 961 with Heinrich Thangeln, when he was knighted by the later Emperor Otto .

The origins of the family are those of Daniel also called Taniel, which were first mentioned in 1205 and 1217 with the Daniel zu Helbra and subsequently in 1340 with the brothers Daniel, Ritter and in 1396 with the brothers Dietrich and Hans Daniel. A grave slab of Eitel Daniel († 1481) and his wife Elisabeth is in the town church St. Michaelis von Jena Inscription: A. Chr. 1487 obiit Elisabetha Danielin in the Martii . The family did not call itself Dangel, Tangel or Thangel until the 16th century.

Their manors were in Haina , Heldrungen (Roter Hof), Mühlberg near Erfurt , Neumark , Ostramondra , Roldisleben, Tannroda, Thangelstedt ( Blankenhain ), Denstedt Castle near Weimar , Vehra and Wallichen . In 1566 Heinrich II was administrator of the Land Commandery of the Teutonic Order in Eger in Bohemia . In 1670 Wolfgang Friedrich Tangel on Ostramundra sold the Roldisleben estate to his son-in-law Hans Christian von Werthern on Lossa . Georg Heinrich and Georg Wolff von Tangel were members of the Fruitful Society . The family died out in Thuringia at the end of the 18th century. One line continued in Werschetz (today Vrsac in Serbia) in the Banat , the male line of which died out in the middle of the 20th century.

In the church of Denstedt there are gravestones and the family coat of arms in wood of relatives. In the Thangelstedt church there is memorial plaques on the east wall of the sacristy, a portrait of the Weimar council and hunter Christoph Friedrich von Thangel († 1690). The colored coat of arms above is made of wood. To the left of it hangs his large coat of arms. To the right of the portrait is a board with life news from Mr. Thangel von Thangelstedt.

In Vehra, on the east side of the old church, there was a tombstone of the Electoral Saxon councilor Ganglof von Thangel (oo 1583 Katharina von Naso ) with the year 1592 and with the coat of arms of the von Thangel families: von Schönfeld , von Walsberg, von Ammendorf , von Lehnau , from Bünau , from Teutleben and from Ebeleben.
