About this picture

Neumark is a country town in the north of the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . The fulfilling municipality is Am Ettersberg . As of December 31, 2018, it is the second smallest city in Thuringia and the third smallest city in Germany.

location

Neumark is located north of the city of Weimar in the extended foot of the northern roof of the Großer Ettersberg in the fertile Thuringian Basin and in the rain shadow of the aforementioned mountain. The Vippachedelhausen dam is to the southwest of the village . The state road 1054 records the village traffic-wise.

history

With its 494 inhabitants Neumark is as of Dec. 31, 2018 after Ummerstadt the second smallest city in Thuringia and after Arnis and Ummerstadt the third smallest in Germany. Unlike Arnis (raised to the rank of town as part of a municipal reform in 1934), Neumark has a medieval town charter, which was granted as early as 1326.

Neumark was first recorded in 1179 as Novo Forno , in 1248 as novum Forum and as a villa (village). The castle was conquered and destroyed in the War of Succession in 1249 by supporters of "Heinrich the Illustrious". Only trenches and walls are left of it. In 1326 Nuwinmarkete appears as a stat (city).

The St. Johannis Church dates from 1691.

Manor

The von Allerstedt sat on Neumark from 1289 to 1326.

The von Rockhausen family on Kirchscheidungen acquired the Neumark manor (near Weimar ) in 1600 . The ducal Saxon-Weimar court councilor Friedrich Hortleder (* 1579, † 1640) named four knightly seats in Neumark in 1633: the Rieteselsche , von Wurmbsche , von Techwitzische and Rockhausensche Rittergut . In a report from 1637, in which it is stated that on January 31st of the year 32 houses, parish, town hall and 22 barns in Neumark were buried by the soldiers, only three noble knightly seats are listed and of these it is said that they were completely looted. Likewise, in 1640 Ludwig Sigmund von Rietesel, who was married to the daughter Sabine of Hans von Wurmb on Neumark, the wurmbschen heirs and a Mr. von Techwitz as owner of the three manors, describe the misery in the darkest colors. Only 34 houses were still inhabited, 69 others were partly burned and partly invaded. This is also confirmed by the later letter from Sabina Maria, widow of Heinrich Gottfried von Rockhausen, mistress of Neumark and Kirchscheidungen, from 1650 to the princely councilors in Weimar. Your letter shows that your Neumark estate was burned down and devastated during the Thirty Years' War , and that all written documents were destroyed. 1664 sell the von Rockhausen the free feudal and knight manor Neumark.
